TIM CRANE is Knightbridge Professor of Philosophy at the University of Cambridge and a fellow of Peterhouse. He was educated at the universities of Durham, York and Cambridge, where he obtained my PhD in 1989. He then worked at King's College London for one year, then at UCL for nineteen years. In 2005 he founded the Institute of Philosophy in the University of London, and was its first director until 2008. In 2009 he moved to the Faculty of Philosophy in the University of Cambridge. He is the General Editor of the Routledge Encylopedia of Philosophy and the Philosophy Consultant Editor of the TLS. In the academic year 2016-17, he is President of the Aristotelian Society. He works on the philosophy of mind, attempting to address questions about the most general nature, or essence, of the human mind, and about the place of the mind in the rest of nature.
