The Prize recognises the Centre's commitment to rigorous, interdisciplinary dialogue between science, philosophy and theology, as well as its contribution over more than three decades to advancing research that integrates scientific and humanistic perspectives to address fundamental questions about humanity, the universe and meaning.
Professor Mark Edwards, Chair of the Faculty Board, said: "The Faculty of Theology and Religion is deeply honoured by this prize and delighted to know that its work is being noticed and commended outside the English-speaking world. It is reassuring to have this acknowledgment of our ability to contribute to global debates."
Professor Mark Harris, Andreas Idreos Professor of Science and Religion and Director of the Ian Ramsey Centre, also reflected on the occasion: "We are humbled and grateful to be awarded the 2026 Ayala Prize. The award recognises a legacy of research and engagement, and is an inspiration for us to continue to work at the intersection of science and theology."
