The study of divine action has been at the focus of much recent work in science and theology. In this seminar I will provide an overview of some of the fundamental questions in this area including the relationship between general and special divine action, differing philosophical approaches to the laws of nature and causation, and the search for non-interventionist approaches to divine action including appeals to quantum mechanics and chaos theory.

DR NICHOLAS SAUNDERS has studied physics and theology. He obtained a doctorate on the relationship between the two disciplines and also worked at CERN developing particle detectors for use in the Large Hadron Collider. He has many publications on the relationship between science and theology including a monograph on the subject of divine action and science published by Cambridge University Press. Since leaving academia he has become a barrister at Brick Court Chambers but continues to work on the interface between science and theology when time permits.
