Dr Tim Middleton, Research Fellow at the Ian Ramsey Centre and Tutorial Fellow in Theology at Regent’s Park College, has recently published Witnessing a Wounded World: A Theology of Ecological Trauma with Fordham University Press. The book was launched as part of the faculty’s Science and Religion seminar series in a special event held at Regent’s Park College. The launch included an introduction to the book from Dr Middleton, as well as responses from Dr Celia Deane-Drummond and Dr Tim Howles, Director and Associate Director of the Laudato Si’ Research Institute at Campion Hall.
The book itself seeks to stage a new conversation at the intersection of ecotheology and trauma theology, asking what could be gained by viewing the contemporary ecological crisis through the lens of trauma. For instance, what kind of traumas are being precipitated by anthropogenic climate change and accelerating biodiversity loss? What would it mean to envisage the Earth itself as traumatized? And how might a Christian theologian respond? Further details about the book can be found here, and an open access eBook is available here.
This book launch was organised as part of the termly Ian Ramsey Centre for Science and Religion seminars. For more information about the seminars join our mailing list by emailing irc.admin@theology.ox.ac.uk.
