Dr Clair Linzey

Clair Linzey is a Research Fellow in Animal Ethics at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. She is also Deputy Director of the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics.
Her research focuses on the intersections of theology, animals, and the environment. Of particular concern is what Christian theology has to say about the moral status of animals and our treatment of them. Her doctorate explored the relationship of animal theology, ecotheology, and liberation theology in relation to the Brazilian theologian Leonardo Boff. Her work is grounded in the increasing scientific evidence of animal sentience and its relation to theological understandings of suffering. These ideas are explored in relation to practical moral and scientific issues, such as “predator control,” aquaculture, captivity, and the use of farmed animals.
