Samuel Hughes read for a B.A. in Philosophy, Politics and Economics and a B.Phil. in Philosophy at Lincoln College, Oxford, where he was supervised by Roger Scruton and Edward Harcourt. He is currently completing a Ph.D. in Philosophy at the University of Cambridge under the supervision of Angela Breitenbach and Paulina Sliwa, entitled ‘In Pursuit of Reason: An Essay on Rationality and the Emotions’. He has also worked as a visiting research student at the University of Tokyo and the Humboldt University of Berlin.
In the autumn of 2019 he will based in Rome as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Notre Dame’s campus there. He will be starting a book on understandings of artistic style, especially in nineteenth-century German thought.
